The Bands of Japan

The Japanese are quite conscious of the need for international standards in bands. Bands were introduced into Japan by British Forces in 1870, leading to the formation of the Navy Band with British instrumentation, instruments and literature. In 1872 the Army band was formed by a French bandmaster with French instrumentation and repertoire.
